INSULATED DUCTING MEETS BUILDING REGULATION REQUIREMENTS
29th January 2008Demand for insulated ducting is increasing now that the impact of the Building Regulations' guidance on ventilation design and installation has filtered through to the practical end of the market place.
Ventilation – Approved Document F states: 'Ducts should be insulated in the roof space and other unheated areas with at least 25mm of a material having a thermal conductivity of 0.04 W/mK'. This is to prevent condensation build-up and the occurrence of moisture running back into ventilation systems. The Energy Saving Trust's Energy Efficiency Best Practice in Housing scheme and the BRE 268 notification also advise the fitting of such products.
A new low cost, high efficiency, insulated ducting product which meets these requirements and is available on next day delivery has been introduced by National Ventilation the Somerset based domestic, commercial and industrial ventilation equipment supplier.
Launched under the company's Monsoon brand name the insulated ducting is specially designed for the HVAC market. The flexible insulated ducting offers minimal heat gain and loss resulting from the temperature differential between internal airflow and ambient air.
Construction features an inner duct wrapped in 25mm fibreglass insulation. An outer jacket, comprising spirally wound multi-layer aluminium polyester laminated fabric reinforced with a fibreglass yarn, provides a barrier that prevents the formation of condensation and adds exceptional strength and tear resistance.
Thermal conductivity is rated at 0.04 W/mK while the temperature range is -30 to +140°C. Available in the diameter range 80 to 610mm maximum air velocity is 30m/sec while maximum positive pressure is 2500 Pa. The ducting is fire resistant to the requirements of BS 476 Parts 6, 7 & 20 and does not release toxic gases if burnt.
Monsoon insulated ducting is easy to connect to round or oval ducting and no special tools are required.
